Troy Snitker Double Barrel Drill – Fastball & Off-Speed Matching
Troy Snitker’s game-prep drill using a double-barrel machine to alternate fastball and off-speed shapes so hitters train covering both pitch types in the same sequence.
- Skill:
- pitch recognition, swing adjustability
- Equipment:
- Bat / tee
- Duration:
- About 8 min
- Setting:
- Indoor
- Players:
- Solo
Coaching notes
Hitters see alternating fastball and off-speed from the double-barrel setup. Focus is on bringing the swing path up for the four-seam while staying through and finishing high through center on the off-speed.
Objectives
Prepare hitters for mixed pitch sequences; develop the ability to adjust swing path and finish for both hard and soft stuff in the same at-bat simulation.
Coaching cues
Bring path up to the four-seam; stay through and finish high through center on off-speed; match the pitcher’s fastball and favorite off-speed shapes.
Common errors
Same swing for both pitches; early commit on off-speed; losing the high finish.
Steps
- 1. Alternate Feeds — Machine feeds FB then off-speed; hitter adjusts path and finish for each.
- 2. Progression — Lift both balls then enter only one to increase decision demand.
- 3. Game-Prep Focus — Match the actual pitcher’s shapes for that day’s starter.
