Coaching notes

Runner begins in a half-kneeling posture that forces a powerful push from the rear leg, then explodes into the first acceleration steps of a steal, building pure power and low posture.

Objectives

Develop explosive first-step; reinforce low acceleration posture; improve steal start mechanics.

Coaching cues

Drive hard off the rear leg; stay low; short powerful steps; arm drive synchronized.

Common errors

Standing up immediately; weak push; long first step.

Safety

Soft surface; progressive intensity.

Open base path; optional timing gates.

Progressions

Static start; reaction cue; full distance; live pitcher.

Variations

Both legs; competitive starts; add secondary into the position.

Steps

  1. 1. Runner kneels on rear knee with front foot in acceleration position
  2. 2. On cue, explode off the rear leg into the first two steal steps
  3. 3. Maintain low posture and powerful arm drive
  4. 4. Continue acceleration for 10-15 yards
  5. 5. Reset and repeat, alternating lead legs
