3 Essential Steps to Improve Exit Velocity (Negative Move, Positive Move, Launch Position)

Breaks down the big three pro techniques for more power: negative move (loading backside), positive move (driving forward), and athletic launch position with scap load. Includes no-equipment drills like crossover, step-back, high-knee, and incline board.

Coaching notes

Coach from Infinite Hitting demonstrates how to load into the glutes and hamstrings on the negative move, drive off the back leg on the positive, and achieve a strong launch position with hips inside knee and scap load for stretch.

Objectives

Increase exit velocity and power through better ground force and sequencing; teach proper loading and drive mechanics.

Coaching cues

Load butt back into glutes/hams; drive off backside; keep weight inside foot; scap load like throwing a punch (body forward, hands cocked); hips inside knee, knee inside ankle.

Common errors

Collapsing or leaking energy early; not loading back side; upper body leading; flat feet or poor posture.

Steps

  1. 1. Crossover drill: lead foot over rear, butt back, drive to athletic position
  2. 2. Step-back drill: step back load into ham/glute, drive forward
  3. 3. High knee: feet together, lift lead leg while butt loads back
  4. 4. Incline board: back foot on board, load and drive
