Sliding Hinge Drill for Pitchers

Pitcher uses a controlled sliding motion of the back foot while hinging into the back hip, keeping the head and torso stacked. Designed for pitchers who push off early or lose foot stability.

Objectives

Develop feel for back-leg hinge, maintain foot stability, keep torso stacked while moving forward, create ground force correctly.

Coaching cues

Ride the slope; keep back foot stable; maintain stacked torso and level pelvis; move forward while staying back.

Common errors

Extending off the back leg; losing foot contact; tipping the torso forward; rushing the move.

Steps

  1. 1. Set up on flat ground or slight incline allowing slide
  2. 2. Assume set or stretch position
  3. 3. Slide the back foot while hinging into the back hip
  4. 4. Keep head and torso back and stacked
  5. 5. Feel the load then progress to dynamic throws once the feel is present
