Lasso Drill Three-Level Progressions for Arm Path and Sequencing

Three progressive levels of the Lasso drill that teach clean arm spiral, hip-to-shoulder sequencing and a relaxed path that lands on time with the lower half.

Equipment:
Ball only
Duration:
About 12 min
Setting:
Indoor or outdoor
Players:
Solo

Coaching notes

Tread Athletics breaks the classic Lasso into three levels of increasing complexity so pitchers learn to find the back hip, create a fluid loop, and release on time without forcing the arm.

Objectives

Clean arm path, proper sequencing on landing, reduced arm stress and better timing of the kinetic chain.

Coaching cues

Find the back hip; keep the arm loose; pull into release; land and rotate together.

Common errors

Arm racing ahead of the hips; tension in the shoulder; early or late release.

Steps

  1. 1. Level 1 – static lasso pattern focusing on path only
  2. 2. Level 2 – add hip lead and landing timing
  3. 3. Level 3 – full dynamic lasso into a throw
  4. 4. 8-10 quality reps per level
