Improve receiving location awareness; develop soft hands and framing; build sequential decision process under pressure.
Coaching cues
Know the lip of the plate; start low and work back through; glove in front of eyes; one job at a time-block, catch, frame, then throw.
Common errors
Stabbing; trying to catch and throw at the same time; losing the bottom of the zone.
Steps
- 1. Set stance relative to plate lip
- 2. Partner throws or rolls
- 3. Block if necessary
- 4. Catch and frame
- 5. Only then transfer and throw
