Objectives
Improve hand-eye coordination; keep hands inside and path compact; verify balance/posture at contact; stay back and hit opposite field; engage legs; achieve full extension.
Coaching cues
Mini-ball: focus on small target. Fence: hands inside, miss the tees/fence. Stop-at-Contact: check lean, back knee under head, front leg straight, hands above barrel. Back Toss: stay back, match path. Bucket: low knees inside feet. Frisbee: fly straight upward like line drive.
Common errors
Getting long/outside the ball; early head lift or rollover; stiff upper body; standing up out of legs; early bat drop.
Steps
- 1. Mini Ball: front toss small/foam balls focusing hand-eye
- 2. New Fence: bat against belly near fence with 1-2 tees; hit down fence line without contact
- 3. Stop at Contact: swing into pad/mat and freeze to check mechanics
- 4. Back Toss: coach tosses from behind plate; stay back and drive opposite field
- 5. Bucket: sit low on bucket, load and swing staying low
- 6. Frisbee: hold frisbee in hands and swing so it flies straight upward
