Coaching notes
Pro Point Catching series focusing on accuracy rather than pure pop time: clockwise arm-slot work, scap-set lateral throws for extension, and the lasso drill for natural arm spiral.
Objectives
Improve throwing accuracy, consistent release point and energy transfer so higher pop-time catchers still get more outs.
Coaching cues
Adjust spine angle for each clock slot; stay connected longer for better spin; spiral the arm away from the body; load into the backside; open the front shoulder to the target.
Common errors
Fighting across the front hip, inconsistent arm slot, early release, loss of spiral.
Steps
- 1. Clockwise throwing: work arm slots from 12 to 6 o'clock with spine tilts
- 2. Scap-set lateral throws: 90° body orientation, preset scaps, pull lead elbow to pocket
- 3. Lasso drill: feel the spiral without a ball then add the throw at controlled intensity
